Born in, 1945 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, he soon moved to Texas when his father returned to the Pacific to active duty in World War II . According to Neal, Texas was always his "official" residence, but he lived all over since his father was in the military.
He attended Texas A&M University from 1963 to 1967. Neal graduated from an Atlanta law school in 1977 and practiced law until he signed with WSB Radio in 1992.” Prior to 1977, Neal also worked as a carpet buyer, insurance salesman, loading trucks, slinging mail at the post office, working in an employment office, writing speeches for the Governor of Georgia and auditing the books overnight at a “sleazy” motel.
